The weaknesses of democracy
"Demonstration against democracy": obviously, the title of the last work of Genevieve Nodens is provocative. We all know how much she is a democrat in her soul and yet ... Geneviève Nodens highlights the dysfunctions of democracy in the world and especially that it often leads, in its beginnings, to chaos. The principle is simple and obvious: when, following too long a dictatorship, the revolt rises, the revolutionary spirit prevails by the exasperation of the population, after the period of violence, the overthrow of absolute power, it is very quickly anarchy, protest, and point of immediate establishment of a peaceful democracy. The thirst for freedom, for expression, makes it go in all directions, we challenge and everything becomes ungovernable until the day when, again, the authority is required, whether by the army, the putsch , fundamentalism or any other expression of a strong power having nothing democratic. And order comes back, peace too, but at what cost? Ah, it's so much safer and more effective! And we know where we are going ...
Well, then, 1789 was only the occasion of death, persecution, establishment of the Restoration and Napoleon or was it a necessary step to the installation, a century later, of a true democracy?
