ENERGY - Geothermal Energy of Tomorrow
Energy is THE problem today. Our world needs energy, more and more energy. And we are seeing the limits of fossil fuels (oil, coal, gas): they are not inexhaustible, have serious ecological consequences, and are only available in certain regions of the globe, certain countries…
Renewable energies? Certainly interesting, but unreliable because they depend on wind and climate.
Nuclear energy? A good solution, but what to do with the waste? Serious consequences in the event of an incident.
So? Well, it seems the Chinese have found the solution.
Drilling of China's first well over 10,000 meters deep for scientific exploration has begun in the Tarim Basin, in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. In the heart of China's largest desert, one of the deepest holes in the world will soon be located.
Okay, but what does that have to do with it? Geothermal energy!!! Yes indeed: the deeper you go into the ground, the higher the temperature rises, right up to the heart of the Earth's core where it reaches 5400°. This is, taken to the extreme, the principle of geothermal energy. And it's this heat that the Chinese want to exploit. Hence this experimental hole, which is then an inexhaustible source of energy. Iceland already knows it.
